Polarised Fishing Sunglasses

Polarised lenses are used in fishing Sunglasses to reduce glare from reflective surfaces of the water or surrounding surfaces, e.g boat deck.

Sunlight can be absorbed or reflected horizontally, diagonally or vertically. The problem this causes for anglers lies particularly in the horizontal reflectivity. Rays of sunlight reflecting off a horizontal surface will strike the eyes at a similar angle - This means the glare from the surface of the water will be very strong.

Polarised Fishing Sunglasses have a laminated surface containing vertical diffusion bands. These bands allow only the vertically-polarised light to pass to the eyes reducing glare by up to 99%.

Glare is eliminated because the horizontally-polarised rays cannot bypass the polarised filter.

Polarised lenses will only work in the horizontal plane. If the wearer's head tilts past 45 degrees or so, some of the horizontal light can enter and cause some bright spots. This is not a problem for polarised fishing sunglasses as the fisherman generally remains in an upright horizontal field of view. One of the benefits to anglers is that good quality polarised fishing sunglasses will remove the majority of surface glare, allowing vision below the surface to spot fish wich would otherwise remain unseen.

Prescription sunglasses can be tinted a very light grey or green to incorporate the polarised laminate.
